Thomas Joseph Matthews
Thomas Joseph Matthews, 84, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in Washington Hospital.
He was born on July 28, 1937, in Canonsburg, the son of the late Peter and Helen Malone Matthews.
Thomas worked many years for Tri-State Engineering, as a fork truck driver.
He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time on his front porch, talking with all the neighbors who gathered there. He considered them family. Thomas had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with friends and family, and his dog “Otis”
On February 15, 1956, Thomas married Allegra Janet Dailey, who died September 28, 2000, after 44 years of marriage.
He is survived by daughters, Shonda (Samuel) Wilkinson, Letetcia Vankirk, Joanne Longstreath, and Kimberly (Sam) Spino, all of Washington; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Mark Rock, whom he loved dearly.
Thomas was preceded in death by sons, Thomas Joseph Matthews, Jr., James Edward Matthews; brothers, James and Phillip Matthews; and sister, Shirley Dagar.
Friends and family will be received from 2 until 4 p.m., and 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022, with a service at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Michael Matthews officiating.
