Carol Jean Shrontz
Carol Jean Shrontz, 77, of Fredonia,d N.Y., formerly of Washington, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, in Buffalo General Hospital.
She was born in Washington on June 26, 1944, daughter of the late Melvin H. and Grace E. Larkin Shoup.
She was a 1962 graduate of Trinity High School, and in 1988 earned her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia, double majoring in Business and Psychology.
On February 14, 1964 she married her best friend, Terry D. Shrontz, with whom she has shared over 58 years of marriage. She attended the First Baptist Church of Dunkirk.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Terrilyn M. (David) Meel, Sherriann E. (Dave) Robinette; three grandsons, Caleb Meel, Josiah Robinette, and Bryson Robinette; and a brother, Melvin D. (Carolyn) Shoup.
She began her career at age 14, working as the Financial Secretary of the Citizens Library in Washington. She held various other jobs including: airline reservationist, switchboard operator, payroll and bookkeeper, cake decorator and most importantly Mother. She worked for United Way of Northern Chautauqua County for 13 years, retiring as the Executive Director.
Carol was an avid collector of dolls, toys, advertising items, and nativities, and enjoyed sharing her collections with others.
After retirement, she delivered Meals on Wheels over a span of 17 years. She and Terry also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting all 50 states and 61 of the national parks.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 E. Maiden Street, Washington. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, with Pastor Mark Massaro officiating.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dunkirk, 876 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, N.Y. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
