George N. Pihiou
George N. “Coco” Pihiou, 94, of Canonsburg, died Monday, August 8, 2022, in Allegheny General Hospital.
He was born September 25, 1927, in Canonsburg, a son of Nick and Dorothea Kiriazis Pihiou.
Mr. Pihiou proudly served his country during World War II, in the United States Army.
Prior to his retirement, he worked at Canonsburg Pottery.
He was an active member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg. Coco was a lifetime member of AHEPA, Chapter 156, the Pan Rhodian Society, the American Legion, White Eagles, Moose, Pulaski Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and several other social and civic organizations.
Surviving are his daughters, Becky Pihiou of Canonsburg, Dorothea (Evan) Zanic of Upper St. Clair; sister, Marsha Georgakis of Aliquippa; three grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Lauren) Zanic, Major Christina Zanic and George (Alexandra) Zanic; along with great-grandchildren, Xander and Leo; and several nieces and nephews.
On June 13, 1954, he married his loving wife of over 65 years, Sylvia Athanassion Pihiou, who died February 17, 2020.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and his wife, are his brothers, Chris, Bill, Sam, Tony and Anthony; and his sisters, Freda Krithis and Stella Kokalis.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11, in the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA, 15317. Trisagion will be held at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, with Father George Athanasiou officiating, Friday, August 12, in the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, with full military rites accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard.
