James Starr Michelucci
James Starr Michelucci, 85, a proud, lifelong resident of Slovan, which he always said was “the town too tough to die” passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, in his home.
He was born on January 27, 1937, in Slovan, a son of the late James and Rose Marie DeFrank Michelucci.
He was born, lived and died in Slovan, graduating from Union High School in Burgettstown, where he was a standout member of the wrestling team.
After high school he attended Findlay College in Ohio before working for 15 years at J&L Steel, McGraw Edison and Cooper Industries, until its closing in 1992, and retiring in 2016 from the Washington County Correctional Facility, where he was a corrections officer.
He served his community as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed classic cars, especially his Mercedes Benz convertible, and was an avid sports fan especially of the Penguins, Steelers and boxing.
His beloved wife, Wilma Russell Michelucci, whom he married on December 19, 1964, preceded him in death on March 14, 2013.
Surviving are his five children, Viola Marie Shields of Ashburn, Va., Cindy Lynn D’Amico and husband, Alfonso, of Canonsburg, James Russell Michelucci and wife, Carrie, of North Strabane Township, Ronald David Michelucci and fiancee, Cheryl Walge, of Avella and Rebecca Alyce Michelucci-Braun and husband, Jay, of Beaver; nine grandchildren, Caralee Cottle, Elizabeth Ann Reese, Brooke Ashley Miller, Nicole Lindsey Newborn, James Paul Caesar Michelucci, Nicolette Bennett, Abigail Marie Michelucci, Caitlin Alisha Michelucci and John Luke Braun; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews Joseph, Robert and Michael Michelucci, William Russell, Jr. and Mindy Bock.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, is his daughter, Starr Ann Michelucci; and his brother, Frank Michelucci.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022 in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., of BURGETTSTOWN, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021, where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022. Interment will follow in the Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
