Madeline “Maggie” Chopp, 84, of Lawrence (Hill Station), passed away peacefully Friday, December 9, 2022.

She was born April 14, 1938, in Hill Station, a daughter of the late Joseph and Cecelia Calaski Orbich.

On December 16, 1961, she married John E. Chopp, with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage, who survives.

Also surviving are her son, John A. Chopp of Lawrence; her daughter, Dana (Daniel) Curley of Whitehall; her sister, JoAnn (Richard) Szyjko of Sturgeon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church and Hill Henderson Civic Association. She volunteered for numerous community functions and organizations.

Maggie was a lifelong resident of Hill Station, where she maintained a warm and well-organized family home. Maggie was the kindest of souls, this was quickly recognized by all those who knew her and it is by those who she will be sadly missed.

She started each day with morning rosaries and the evening with Wheel of Fortune. Maggie had a love of all creatures great and small, especially dogs. She enjoyed bird watching and took pride in her flower beds. Maggie embarked on many bus trips with family and friends, exploring the local region.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Edmund and James Orbich; her sisters, Rena Trnavsky, Janice Hawkins, Audrey Pollice, Valerene Steiner and Connie Ziegler.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, in the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Benedict the Abbot, McMurray. Interment follows in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to the Washington Area Humane Society at wahs.org, in Madeline Chopp’s name.
