Rena G. Gilfillan Bonar
Rena G. Gilfillan Bonar, 89, of West Alexander, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022, in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born October 31, 1933, in West Alexander, the daughter of the late John Irwin and Hannah Rieck Gilfillan.
Rena graduated from West Alexander High School in 1951, and went on to receive her business degree from Elliott School of Business.
She was a member of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and Elder, and sang in the choir for many years.
Rena married Carl Edward Bonar, and they were very happily married for 17 years until his passing in 1978.
She was employed as a Customer Service Representative and Assistant Manager at various financial institutions for 33 years until her retirement in 1998. Rena enjoyed genealogy, cross stitching, reading, baking, traveling and playing the piano, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three children, Carol Ballard of West Alexander. Julia (Paul) Hoge of West Alexander and John (Lisa) Bonar of Bristol, Vt.; six grandchildren: Carl (Alissa) Ballard of Meadville, Hannah Bonar of Burlington, Vt., Ryan Bonar of Castleton, Vt., Matthew Hoge of Canonsburg, Lauren Hoge of Pittsburgh and Laura Bonar, of Bristol, Vt.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Gilfillan.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at West Alexander Presbyterian Church, 108 Main Street, West Alexander, PA 15376.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in the church, with Reverend Fred Soberg officiating. Burial will follow at West Alexander Cemetery.
