Joseph Neil Ayre Jr., 37, of Avella passed away Wednesday December 21, 2022 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born September 27, 1985 in Washington a son of Joseph Neil, Sr. and Wendy Turner Ayre who live in Avella.

Joey enjoyed collecting baseball cards, was a Steelers fan, Ultimate Fighter fan, loved his dogs Thor and Buster, loved all music and especially loved his niece and nephews.

He was a graduate of Avella High School in 2004, played football, baseball and wrestled and was his class homecoming king.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History from California University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.

Shield Energy Services employed him as an Oil and Gas Operator.

Surviving in addition to his parents is his fiance, Lauren Bowman with whom he made his home; a sister, Cassandra Ayre of Avella; and a brother, James (Dana) Gatewood also of Avella. Also surviving is a niece, Gracyn Gatewood; and two nephews, Hayden and Gavin Gatewood; and his maternal grandmother, Sandra Bogochenko; many aunts and uncles and his mother-in-law, to be Pam Natoli of Washington.

Deceased are his maternal grandfather, Thomas Bogochenko and his paternal grandparents, Neil Ayre and Connie Siebel.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday December 27, in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Avenue in Washington where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, with Rev. Philip Amaismeier officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in North Buffalo Cemetery.
