Robert M. Berry
Robert M. Berry, 88, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2022.
Bob was born in Yarmouth, Maine, September 12, 1933. He graduated from Portland High School and went on to join the Navy.
Once out of the Navy he earned a BA in mathematics with a minor in English, from the University of Maine, at Orono. He went on to earn his masters in mathematics and pursued a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh, with the help of a much sought after National Science Foundation Grant.
He moved to Pennsylvania to teach at Washington & Jefferson College, and retired from teaching at California University of Pennsylvania in 1994.
In 1958, Bob married the love of his life, Marilyn Jean Blake, to whom he was married for 62 years.
After they both retired they moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and enjoyed a life of golfing and friends. Bob also had the time to read all the history books that had waited for his retirement. He and Marilyn, and their friend Helen Sitar, traveled the world. While back home, Bob traveled with his nephew, Tom Berry, to various Civil War battlegrounds.
Marilyn passed away in 2020, leaving Bob quite heartbroken, but he was well loved by his daughter, Linda Ashworth and her husband Scott, as well as his son, Greg and his wife Amy Higginbotham Berry.
Bob will be missed by his four grandchildren, Kendall Ashworth Thompson and her husband Jeff, Austen Ashworth, Blake Berry and Max Berry. Also missing their great-grampy will be Devon and Parker Thompson.
Bob is preceded in death by many members of his family and friends, and the best dog in the world, Friskey, who will enjoy reuniting with his favorite guy for that last trip outside at the end of the night once again.
