Leroy Frank Marker, 71, of Washington, died Saturday, February 5, 2022, in the Washington Hospital.

He was born October 3, 1950, in Washington, a son of the late Roy and Betty Mull Marker.

Leroy joined the U.S. Navy immediately after school.

Leroy worked for Jessop Steel Company for over 35 years before retiring. In 1987, he and his brother-in-law, Malcolm Hay, bought Rusty’s Towing. The two ran the business, while working their day jobs for the majority of the time, until retiring from towing in 2021.

Mr. Marker was a hard working man who did not sit for long. He loved his garage and towing business more than most things and poured his heart into his work.

In his free time, Leroy enjoyed socializing at one of the many clubs where he enjoyed membership, especially the Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars #927, and Elks Lodge #776 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, all in Washington.

Surviving are his soul mate, Susan Karr, and her son, Randy Bodner, of Washington; his brother-in-law and business partner, Malcolm (Helen) Hay; his sister-in-law, Bernie Marker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki; and his brother, Raymond.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
