Dolores Anne Howell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Monday, February 7, 2022, at her home in Flower Mound, Texas. She was 87 years old.

Dolores was born to Mary Violet and Stanley Grudowski, on February 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh.

She was the proud oldest sibling to her eight brothers and sisters, and was always available for help and advice as the family grew up. Some of her most cherished memories included time spent with family at special events and celebrations.

Dolores married Donald Howell, on September 12, 1953, after meeting on a blind date the previous year. Dolores called Don her prince, and throughout their 68 years of marriage, they provided each other with laughter, support, loyalty and love. Dolores and Don settled in Pittsburgh where they raised three daughters and made many lifelong friends with neighbors, coworkers and fellow church members.

Dolores loved to play cards and Scrabble, do crossword puzzles, and especially loved to bowl in a league with her friends.

She spent many hours as a volunteer with The Women of St. Benedict’s, and was proud to serve as a Eucharistic Minister for several years.

She kept an immaculate house and enjoyed hosting meals there for their many friends and family members. She was always available to spend time with and babysit grandchildren, and especially happy to brag about their accomplishments.

Dolores will be fondly remembered for being a friend when she was needed, a big sister when her family called, a devoted mother for her girls and a loving wife to Don.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Donald Howell; her three daughters, Kathy Howell Early and husband Roger Early, Lori Howell Squatrito and husband Jim Squatrito, and Diane Howell Whitcomb and husband Craig Whitcomb.

Dolores was the very proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Patrick Early, Garrett Whitcomb, Chris Early, Michael Squatrito, Kara Whitcomb, Allison Squatrito and Caroline Squatrito. She is also great-grandmother to Kennedy, Clifford, Morgan and Hudson. She will be missed by her remaining seven siblings; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dolores’ honor to the Wounded Warriors Project at support.woundedwarriors.org, or to the Alzheimers Association at www.alz.org

Visitation for Dolores will be held at Beinhauer Funeral Home, McMurray, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday February 13, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbott Catholic Church, McMurray, at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, followed by burial at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
