John E. Charnovich Sr.

John E. Charnovich Sr., 91, of Finleyville, died Monday, January 10, 2022, in his home.

He was born October 2, 1930, in Brownsville, a son of the late John Blaze and Anna Charnovich.

John was retired as a roll builder with the former LTV Steel in Hazelwood. After retirement, he worked for 15 years at Fort Cherry Golf Club, his favorite job.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, L.O.O.M #172, and was an avid golfer and Steelers fan. He will be fondly remembered as a jokester.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Nancy Piel Charnovich; son, John (Jane) Charnovich Jr. of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Deborah (Wynn) Stevenson of Canonsburg and Jan (Mike) Kotula of Jefferson, N.C.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Deceased are two brothers; Joseph and Henry Blaze; and two sisters, Mary Steele and Barbara Ferry.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 14, in Kegel Funeral Home, Inc., David P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, in St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John XXIII Parish, 3609 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
