The family of Emil Joseph Kumer Jr. announced his peaceful passing Sunday, December 19, 2021, in Melbourne, Fla.

Best known as “EJ” by his loving family and many friends and associates during his distinguished military and successful business careers, EJ is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Ceravolo Kumer; his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Liane Kumer Fort and husband Johnathan; his grandchildren, Dylan Fort, Castor Pulliam, Michael Fort, Emil Johnathan “EJ” Fort, and Kristopher Oliveria; brother, David Kumer; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann Kumer and James Zullo.

He was predeceased by his parents, Emil Joseph and Anna Sakely Kumer; his sister and brother-in-law, Rose Kumer and Gerald Helmick; and sister-in-law, Faye Kumer.

Born in Cecil in 1937, EJ was a gifted musician, performing in a local band in high school, the Anton Kay Band, and performing in the Air Force Band. He especially enjoyed entertaining his family and friends by playing his accordion.

EJ was a member of the Slovene National Benefit Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, CMAA, and the American Legion.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 29, in Eau Gallie First Baptist Church, 1501 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard, Melbourne, FL 32935.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Eau Gallie First Baptist Church in EJ Kumer’s name.
