Nellie Marie Lafferty Bateson
Nellie Marie Lafferty Bateson, 99, lifelong resident of Peters Township, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, Friday, June 10, 2022.
Nellie was the beloved wife of the late George Bateson, who preceded her in death in 2002; mom of the late Anna Mae (Allen, surviving) Cushey, and George L. (Martha) Bateson; grandma of Christina (John) Foth, Amy (Kevin) Nebel, Rebecca (Brian) Bruce, Jennifer (Tyler Bronson) Bateson, James (Lynne) Bateson, and the late Kathryn Bateson; great-grandma of Ashlee Crawford, Alexis Crawford, Colin Nebel, Kaitlyn Bruce, Jack Foth, Hailey Bateson, Kathryn Bronson, Casey Bateson and Drew Bronson. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Nellie worked for more than 50 years at Simmons Farm, where in 1955 she began working part-time as seasonal help and went on to run the farm market on Rt. 19 for many years.
On October 8, 1922, Nellie was born at home on her family’s farm in Peters Township, where she continued to live up until recently.
Arrangements by Beinhauers. Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, in the funeral home, followed by burial in Brush Run Cemetery at the Lafferty family plot.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of one’s choice, in memory of Nellie.
