David Edgar Riggs, 61 of Wellsburg, W.Va., passed away suddenly, while on a camping trip, at 4:06 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

David was born March 8, 1961, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Charles Edgar Riggs and Evelyn John Riggs.

David graduated from Brooke High School. He was Baptist by faith and attended Friendship Community Church, Washington.

David retired after 28 years of service as a forklift driver for Banner in Wellsburg. He attended many of the Washington County Fairs joining in on the mud bogs and demolition derbies. Many will remember David for his enjoyment of camping with his wife and friends, and fishing; but most of all, tinkering with things from tractors to trucks and anything in between.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Lucille Miller; a nephew, Timothy Miller; two in-laws, Penny Closser and James Everett “Bodie” Kelley III.

David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patti Kelley Riggs of Wellsburg; a brother, Clayton Riggs Sr. and wife Deborah of Wytheville, Va.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Everett Kelley Jr. and Shirley Ann Kelley of Avella; three in-laws, Mary Stoey and husband Richard of Waterfall, Cole Closser of Wellsburg, and Bill Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, and again from 10 until the 11 a.m. time of a funeral service Friday, June 17, in the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, W.Va. (304) 737-3551, with his brother, Pastor Clayton Riggs, officiating.

Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery, Avella.
