Mary D. Stewart
Mary D. Stewart, 97, beloved by her family and many friends, went home to the presence of Jesus on Thursday, June 16, 2022 after a brief illness. Mary was a longtime resident of Washington PA, but recently resided in Birmingham, Ala., to be near family.
She was born August 8, 1924, a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Delsignore and graduated from Hickory High School.
In 1947, she married John Denham Stewart to whom she was married 55 years; they had three children: Linda Kacena (George), Sandra Gority (David) and John R. Stewart (Linda). Mary was blessed with seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren all of whom brought a big smile to her face. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
As a young adult, Mary committed her life to Jesus as her Savior. Her life was marked by devotion to Christ as she lived in obedience to Him in her quiet and numerous ways; loving, serving and faithfully praying for others. Mary enjoyed cooking and often showed love by preparing food and hosting a meal. She was a long time active member of the Washington Alliance Church where she served in several capacities. Mary and John also served on short term mission trips to Asia, Africa and South America.
Mary retired from Trinity School District, where she managed a school cafeteria. She is remembered by those who knew and loved her, not by her occupation, but by thoughtfully giving of herself to family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband John; her three brothers Domenick, Angelo and Nicholas Delsignore and a nephew Larry Delsignore.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
