Lester Stevenson
Lester Stevenson, 94, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 16, 2022, in his home.
He was born January 28, 1928, in Merryville, La., a son of Johnnie and Ida Mae Ashworth Stevenson.
Lester served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1957, where he was a tank commander with Co B 72nd Tank Battalion in Camp Irwin, Calif.
Following his service, he was a bus driver and mechanic for the Barstow Unified School District in Barstow, Calif., a mechanic and shop foreman for Yellow Freight from 1979 to 1986, and worked in Civil Service as a supply clerk at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow from 1986 until his retirement in 2001.
He was an avid golfer and bowler.
Surviving are four children, Lester Stevenson Jr. (Annette) of Fleming Island, Fla., Carolyn Hagan (Melvin) of Canonsburg, John Douglas Stevenson of Dallas, Texas, and Wanda Peel of Anchorage, Alaska; and many grand, great- and great-great grandchildren.
A brother, Clifton Stevenson, is deceased.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, June 29. Interment will be private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, where full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg.
