Samuel Marra

Samuel Marra, 99, of Washington, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 3, 2022, in his home. He was born September 21, 1922, in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of the late Dominic and Rosina Nicoletti Marra.

Mr. Marra was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served during World War II for four years until 1946. Mr. Marra was part of the Company C, 508th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he enrolled at Washington and Jefferson College, where he graduated from in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree.

Mr. Marra then began a career as a production planner for U.S. Steel, Irwin Works, where he worked for many years up until his retirement.

He enjoyed watching boxing and football and bowling in his Tuesday night bowling league.

Mr. Marra was also a member of the Alpine Club and the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On June 26, 1948, he married Mildred Amatangelo, who passed away August 7, 1995.

Surviving are a son, Samuel (Jean Anne) Marra of St. Simons Island, Ga.; a daughter, Kathleen Morris of Washington; three grandchildren, Jason Morris, Timothy (Jaimie) Morris and Jessica Marra; three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Isabelle and Luke Morris; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Marra. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Marra was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Rohrbacher; a brother, J. Dominic Marra; a brother-in-law, Erwin Rohrbacher; and a son-in-law, Frank A. Morris Jr.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor / director, Holly Renay Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Park N. Crosier, director. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut Street, Washington, with the Rev. John Lynam as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Army.
