Irma Smith Welsch
Irma Smith Welsch, 70, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born March 30, 1951, in Johnstown, to Thomas and Cecelia Smith.
Irma was a speech pathologist for over 35 years before retiring from the Keystone Oaks School District. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others. Irma was instrumental in the development of the Peters Township Community Recreation Center having served on the Parks & Recreation Board, and devoted her time to many other community initiatives.
Irma had the best outlook on life even after diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy (“PSP”). She did not let her illness define her and loved spending time with family and friends.
Irma enjoyed traveling, visiting the casino with friends, and was a lifelong learner. However, most of all, she cherished being with her grandchildren. Irma’s faith, perseverance, and positive attitude never faltered throughout her life and battle with PSP. She was eternally grateful for the compassionate team of caregivers, nurses, and therapists that gave her so much support, hope, and laughter. Her bright smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Irma is survived by her children, Brianna (Andy) Grech and Ryan (Brandi) Welsch; three grandchildren, Cecelia, James and Lena; seven brothers and sisters, Ken Smith, Ray (Gail) Smith, Don (Theresa) Smith, Annette (Jerry) Ridenour, Sharon (Mike) Rickels, Jean (Stan) Werner, and Ruth (David) Sims; former spouse, Woody Welsch; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Arrangements by Beinhauer. Friends will be received at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, in St. John XXIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbot Church. Everyone please meet at church.
