Mary J. Almo Reese Rood
Mary J. Almo Reese Rood, 79, of Washington, died Saturday, March 5, 2022, in her home.
She was born June 16, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Richard and Geneva McIntosh Almo.
Mary had attended Fort Cherry, and graduated from Trinity High School.
For most of her life, 53 years, Mrs. Rood was in nursing, having worked at Western Center State Hospital, Kane Regional Nursing Center, and Country Meadows Retirement Communities. Her passion was making people happy and more comfortable.
While living in the state of California, she had worked as a crossing guard for Chula Vista School District.
Mary enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, and especially loved riding her Harley Davidson. She also enjoyed puzzle books, camping, traveling, cooking, baking, and watching game shows and the home shopping networks. Her greatest joy was her family, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her first husband, Marlyn D. Reese Jr., whom she married March 10, 1964, died April 16, 1995.
On June 28, 1997, she married Howard “Butch” Rood, who died March 21, 2009.
Surviving are five children, Juanita (Clarence) McCartney, Tammy L. Bell, Theresa (B.J.) Parkinson and Debra Donley, all of Washington, and Doug (Diseree) Reese of Daisytown; two brothers, Richard (Kim) Almo of Canonsburg, and Kenneth Almo of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Carol Stetz of Van Voorhis, and Donna (John) Johnson of Pinellas Park, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Joseph Charles Almo, George “Bub” Kinzel and Charles Butz; and a granddaughter, Amber Marie Reese.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9.
Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
