Jay Raymond Powell
Jay Raymond Powell, 85, of Amwell Township, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022, in his home.
He was born April 22, 1936, in Waukegan, Ill., a son of the late Ray Jean and Josephine Frances Penca Powell.
Mr. Powell was a 1953 graduate of Waukegan High School, a graduate of the University of Illinois, and also earned his PhD from the University of Southern Illinois in Psychology and Behavioral Studies.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1953 to 1956. For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Powell was employed as a Professor at the University of Vera Cruz, N.M., and later at California University of Pennsylvania for over 26 years, where he also served as Head of the Special Education Department and Head of the Honors Department.
Jay enjoyed photography, traveling and his dogs.
Surviving are two sons, Tyler Powell of Washington, and Zachary Powell on Marianna. He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are his wife, Nancy Sheetz Powell; siblings, Wayne and Linda Powell.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA 15313. Interment will be private.
