Stella V. Pleban Gavlak Zabrosky
Stella V. Pleban Gavlak Zabrosky, 97, of Carmichaels, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Townview Care and Rehab, Canonsburg, PA.
Stella was born March 15, 1925, in Wynn, Fayette County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Zaucha Pleban.
She is survived by two children: Frank J. Gavlak (Kathleen) of McMurray and Linda S. Toth (George) of Carmichaels; two grandchildren; Adam Gavlak and Jaclyn Stewart (Tom); three great-grandsons, Jack Stewart, and Max and Liam Gavlak; and many nieces and nephews.
Stella performed as the Blue Ridge Mountain Sweetheart with the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys band in the 1930s and 1940s. They did live performances on WMBS Radio. Stella sang and tap danced along with her brothers Ed and Walter.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Gavlak Sr. and Charles Zabrosky Sr., a son, Martin W. Gavlak, 3 brothers; John, Walter, and Edward Pleban, 5 sisters; Mary Muniga, Helen Paptick, Anna Korona, Blanche Bacon, Wanda Cudzillo, and a little sister, Stella, who died in her childhood.
Stella was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home, 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320. 724-966-5100. The funeral Mass will take place at 12:45 p.m. at St. Hugh Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. James Farnan, celebrant.
