Clayton Sphar

Clayton Sphar, 87, of Venetia, died Saturday, April 30, 2022, in his home.

He was born September 5, 1934, in Twilight Hollow, a son of the late Walter and Iva Sphar.

Clayton was a 1952 graduate of Peters Township High School and a 1957 Cum Lade graduate of W&J College, where he earned his degree in physics.

He was retired as a nuclear physicist with Bettis Atomic Laboratory Plant in West Mifflin, where he worked for 37 years. He was a lifelong member of Wright’s United Methodist Church, where he held numerous titles; past president and current treasurer of the Venetia Heritage Society, and enjoyed woodworking and furniture making.

Surviving are his wife, Marion Wallace Sphar; two sons, David (Barbara) Sphar of Eighty Four and James Sphar of Venetia; two daughters, Kim (John Debord) Boehme of Venetia and Lorraine (David) Marlett of Upper St. Clair; a brother, Robert Sphar of Salem, Va.; and eight grandchildren, Jesse, Melanie, Alexis, Margaret, William, Thomas, John and Sheree.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Kegel Funeral Home, Inc., David P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, in Wright’s U.M. Church, 788 Venetia Road, Venetia. Private interment will be held in Maple Creek Cemetery, Charleroi.
