Valentino J. DaPra Sr.
Valentino J. “Tino” DaPra Sr., 99, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in TownView Heath and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born March 13, 1923, in Lozzo di Cadore, Provincia di Belluno, Italy, a son of the late Tizzano and Carolina Baldovin DaPra.
Mr. DaPra lived in Canonsburg since 1931, where he was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church.
Tino proudly served with the United States Army as a prison guard.
A brick layer by trade, he retired as a winder after many years with the former Pennsylvania Transformer Company, McGraw Edison and Cooper Power Systems.
He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and wood crafts. Tito, who enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra music, was a very generous man, helping to support many charities.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 74 years, Norma Papetti DaPra; his two sons, Vic J. DaPra, and Val J. DaPra Jr. and his wife, Vera, all of Canonsburg; his brother, Robert DaPra of McMurray; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Gilio and Mario DaPra.
Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Catholic blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13. Interment with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
Mr. DaPra’s sons are requesting casual dress instead of the usual suit and tie, as their dad would have liked.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals on Wheels would be appreciated.
