Thomas H. Barnhart

Thomas H. Barnhart, 84, of Washington, died Sunday, May 15, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 4, 1937 in Marianna, a son of the late Lester and Pauline Robbins Barnhart.

Thomas attended North Bethlehem School and was a member of the Scenery Hill United Methodist Church.

He worked as a truck driver for Hapchuk, Inc., for many years until his retirement in 2007. He also formerly worked for Fairmont Supply.

In his free time, Mr. Barnhart enjoyed watching NASCAR and Westerns, but his greatest passion was hunting; especially deer. Family occasions were often rescheduled around deer season, including birthdays and anniversaries.

Thomas was Past Commander of the Glyde Post #897 of the American Legion. After its closing, he became a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post #175, of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Arms Club of Washington, and the Anawana Club, Amity.

Mr. Barnhart served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, mostly in Germany .

On December 1, 1961, in Lone Pine, Thomas married the love of his life, Edna Rasel, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Thomas A. (Barbara) Barnhart, of Amity, Todd (Erica Aloe) Barnhart, of Scenery Hill, and Terence (Tammy) Barnhart, of Burgettstown; a daughter, Janice (Hap) Pettit, of Lone Pine; a brother, James Barnhart, of Cedar Hill, Tenn.; a sister, Wilma Frazee, of Richeyville; eight grandchildren, Zachary (Courtney), Andrew, Karlee (Dylan), Kolton, Aaron, Ashley, Travis, and Trevor; three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Brayden, and Rowen; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Ralph Barnhart; and a sister, Doris Hapchuk.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at Noon, Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, where full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Edwin Scott Linton Post #175, of the American Legion. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by Edward Scott Linton Post #175, of the American Legion.
