Jessie M. Wood
Jessie M. Wood, 89, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in Woodside Place of Presbyterian SeniorCare.
She was born March 18, 1933, in Monongahela, the only child of the late John Nelson “Bud” and Frances Carolyn Sebolt Wood. She was born two months after her father was electrocuted while working for West Penn Power.
She was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School and a 35-year employee of the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania.
She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, where she was a lector, as well as a lector at daily mass. She was also a Eucharistic minister at Washington Hospital
She was a past president of the Bell Telephone Ten-Year Club, past president of the Bell Telephone Pioneers’ National Trail Council, a past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and a member of the Friendship Club.
She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army, Washington Hospital, the Literacy Council and various, other organizations.
She was the last of her immediate family.
There will be no visitation. A funeral liturgy will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 in Immaculate Conception Church, 119 W. Chestnut Street, Washington, with Reverend George Chortos as celebrant. Please meet at the church. All other services will be private.
