Suzanne M. Swart Wilhelm
Suzanne M. “Susie” Swart Wilhelm, 79, of Taylorstown, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
She was born on January 16, 1943, in Washington, a daughter of the late Robert and Ann Kanalis Swart.
Susie graduated from Washington High School in 1960 and the Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1963, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. She later worked as a psychiatric nurse at Mayview State Hospital. Susie finished her career as a nurse at SCI Greene.
On September 21, 1963, she married J. Adrian “Gus” Wilhelm. Susie and Gus were happily married until his passing on August 22, 1998.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Christy Wilhelm of Spartansburg; daughter, Kathy Williams (Frank) of Taylorstown; son, Billy Wilhelm of Taylorstown; and daughter, Michelle Wilhelm Strope, of Somerset; grandchildren, Lauren, Chad and Adrian Nagy, Sam Williams, Anna Whitfield (Erik), and Sarah and Jack Strope; sister, Elizabeth Silvers (Stewart); brother, Chris Swart; and sister, Paula Waldron (Michael); as well as many nieces and nephews.
During her career, Susie instructed Lamaze Natural Childbirth classes to dozens of expectant parents. She was a fierce supporter of women’s rights. Susie was deeply altruistic, and contributed to many charitable organizations, including Autism Speaks, World Wildlife Foundation, Planned Parenthood, The Obama Foundation, Nature Conservatory, City Mission, LGBTQ, Human Rights Campaign, International Rescue, Doctors Without Borders, IFAW Animal Rescue, Audubon Society, and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Susie was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide variety of music and television. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. the hour of a funeral service on Friday, November 11, 2022 in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, Holly Renay Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director. Burial will be private.
