Shirley J. Carl
Shirley J. Carl, 88, of Hickory, died Friday, November 18, 2022, in Evergreen Personal Care, Washington.
She was born January 10, 1934, in Washington, a daughter of the late Wilbert C. and Christina Kern Schollaert.
Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School and a 41-year employee of the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, where she held several positions, retiring in 1992.
She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, and belonged to the Bell Telephone 10-Year Club, the Bell Pioneers and was a member of the Hickory Woman’s Club.
Shirley enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her second home in Scottsdale, Ariz., spending winters there.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years (minus 2 weeks), Howard L. Carl, who died January 28, 2022. They had no children but always had a beautiful blonde cocker spaniel.
Surviving are her brother and only sibling, Will C. Schollaert (Carol, deceased) of Scottsdale; nieces, Kim Konrad (Mark) of Tucson, Ariz., and Amy Kelly (Wally, deceased) of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephew, Mark C. Schollaert (Anna) of Oceanside, Calif.; six great-nieces and three great-nephews, Lynn, Kate, Hannah, Ashley, Lucy, Archie, John, Parker and Beau.
