Johanna Brandtner Levy, 86, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela.

She was born February 18, 1936, in Charleroi, the daughter of the late Valentine and Johanna Taylor Brandtner.

Mrs. Levy was a 1954 graduate of Charleroi High School. She was a very intelligent student making the honor roll every semester from her freshman to senior year.

Mrs. Levy first worked in the advertising department at Fox’s Grocery. She later was employed in the merchandising department at Langs, from where she retired.

Mrs. Levy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish and was a member of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of the church. She at one time served as President of the Christian Mothers. Mrs. Levy was a volunteer with the Washington Hospital Auxiliary.

She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan, loved to read, sew, crochet, knit and paint. Mrs. Levy was an accomplished artist, winning various awards for her painting. She, at one time, was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts in Washington. Mrs. Levy will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

On April 14, 1956, she married Glenn C. Levy, who died November 16, 2018.

Surviving is a daughter, Carol (Thomas) Dolovacky of Scenery Hill; a son, Michael (Jody) Levy of Washington; two grandsons, Joe (Brooke) Avolia and Sam Avolia; four great-grandchildren, Irelynd, Camden, Dakohta and Emmah; two sisters-in-law, Sally Sedunov of Wyano, and JoAnn Brandtner of Greensburg; a nephew, John (Elizabeth) Sedunov III of Phoenixville; and three nieces, Valerie (Dave) Kostly of Greensburg, Cynthia (Chris) Leonard of North Carolina and Danielle Leaper of Somerville, New Jersey. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, and husband; Mrs. Levy was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Leaper; a brother, Valentine Brandtner; sister and brother-in-law, Sam and Ruth Levy; and a brother-in-law, John Sedunov Jr.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Residence at Hilltop for the loving care and compassion that was given to Johanna while under their care.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner / Supervisor, Holly Renay Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director.

The Christian Mothers of Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, in the funeral home.

A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m.. on Friday, December 2, 2022, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut Street, Washington, with the Reverend George Chortos as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
