H. Milton Grantz
H. Milton “Whitie” Grantz, 93, of Washington, died Saturday, October 22, 2022, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
He was born January 25, 1929, in Washington, a son of the late John D. and Minnie E. Nicholls Grantz.
Whitie was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School and worked for Kroger’s for 23 years.
He was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and saw combat experience in seven battles during the Korean War. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Washington.
He was a member of the Church of the Covenant, Washington, where he served as deacon and elder and he sang in the choir.
Whitie enjoyed singing in barber shop quartets for 50 years, including the Washington Barbershop Chorus, the Presidents of Harmony and the South Hills Keystone Chorus, among other groups. He was also active in the Washington Community Theater. Whitie was awarded a plaque announcing him as the #1 Superfan of the Washington High School Prexies.
On April 20, 1957, he married Jacqueline Stockdale. Mrs. Grantz survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Terri Grantz and Stephanie (Keith) Silbaugh, both of Washington; his world and the love of his life, granddaughter, Nicole Silbaugh; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Timothy Grantz; four brothers, John, Robert, William and Wray Grantz; and four sisters, Betty Plants, Margaret Ianni, Eleanor Ardeno and Joie Morris.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 27, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 28, with the Reverend Dr. Billy Younger officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
