Jay Romano

Jay Romano, 64, of Cecil Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 23, 2022, in St. Clair Hospital, following a hard-fought battle with cancer, with his devoted family by his side.

He was born June 15, 1958, in Washington, a son of the late James J. “Pooch” and Patricia L. Kiger Romano Jr.

Jay was raised in Canonsburg and was a graduate of Canon-McMillan Senior High School Class of 1976, and Waynesburg University Class of 1981.

He was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse.

Mr. Romano had served as the chief financial officer of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater for the past 40 years and was treasurer of the National Society of Arts and Letter, Pittsburgh Chapter. He was a member of the Canonsburg Educational and Cultural Institute and had served for 16 years on the Canon-McMillan School Board.

Jay had been an officer and coach with Canonsburg Youth Baseball. He enjoyed golf and travel. He was an avid Bruce Springsteen fan who never missed a concert in the area and most of all loved spending time with his family.

On October 20, 1984, he married the love of his life, Cathy Cianelli, who survives after 38 years of marriage.

Also left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved sons, Jayson Romano of Cecil Township, and Jaret Romano and wife Daisy of Canonsburg; his two dear grandsons, Joaquin and Jordan Romano; his brother, John (Linda D’Amico) Romano of Canonsburg; a sister-in-law, Debbie Queen Romano of Ft. Mill, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his brother, James J. Romano, who passed away January 13, 2021.

Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 27, and from 1 to 3 and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 28, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, October 29. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Muse. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Jay’s name, are suggested to the Washington City Mission or the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, 2900 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15201.
