William Richard Burrie, Sr.

William “Bill” Richard Burrie Sr., a native Pennsylvanian, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022.

Bill was lovingly being cared for in the home of his youngest son, Brad Burrie in Newark, Ohio. Brad was dedicated in making sure his father was well taken care of. Bill’s oldest daughter, Brenda from Phoenix, Ariz. was always extremely dedicated to Bill’s care.

Bill was a World War II Veteran. He was a sergeant in the United States Army Company C, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division. He received 3 Bronze Star Medals, 3 Purple Heart Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Army of Occupation medal Japan, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.

Bill was born January 30th, 1925, in Hibbs, Fayette, Pennsylvania.

He was a son of the late John Donald Burrie who passed away in 1953 and Mary Elizabeth Reagan Burrie Norman who passed away in 2001. Bill was grandson to Samuel Burrie and Carrie Ethel Cain Burrie from Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania and Dorothy Campbell Reagan, of Northumberland, England and John Stillwagon Reagan of Upper Tyrone, Fayette County, PA. He was proud to be of British heritage, he often referred to himself as a Johnny Bull.

Bill was married to Sarah Leona Redman Kaczmark Burrie for 60 years until her death on September 22, 2014.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Jacob Burrie; sisters, Donna Jean Burrie Miske, Elsie Elizabeth (Libba) Burrie Marucci; his sons, Warren Samuel Burrie, William Richard (Butch) Burrie, Jr.; son, James David Kaczmark Sr.; grandsons, Jason Michael Kolat, and James David (Jimmy) Kaczmark, Jr.; son-in-law, Clifford Allen Teagarden; step-father, Howard Benton Norman, Sr.; and brother-in-laws, Bill Murray, Mike Miske, Neggie Marucci.

Surviving are daughters, Connie Sue Kaczmark (Clifford) Teagarden, Brenda Carol Burrie (Daniel) Corcoran; sons, Robert Donald Burrie, and Clyde Thomas (Missy) Burrie; daughter, Alicia Juanita Burrie (Frank Callipari); sons, Harry Michael Burrie, and Brad Allen Burrie; daugher-in-law, Donna Kaczmark; 2 sisters, Dorothy Murray of Salem Ohio, and Beverly James (Bernard), of Latrobe. Bill was a loving grandfather to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Bill generously supplied his family, friends and neighbors with fresh vegetables from his amazing gardens. Bill was an active man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening and visiting with his sisters, family and friends. Bill was definitely a favorite in his family and loved by many.

A graveside Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 4, at the Greene County Memorial Park.
