Woodrow Wilson Sowers
Woodrow Wilson Sowers, 105, of Washington, died September 5, 2022, in Presbyterian Senior Care.
He was born July 20, 1917, in Bethlehem Township, a son of the late Tillden and Ida Penn Sowers.
Mr. Sowers was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from July 3, 1944, until February 25, 1946, during which time, he earned the rank of Private First Class, and was issued the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the Victory Medal.
Woodrow was a steelworker for 35 years at Pittsburgh Steel, as well as a farmer and coal miner during his long productive life.
Protestant by faith, he enjoyed hunting and sitting down to read a good book.
On December 22, 1936, he married Betty Horn, who died on June 1, 2016.
Surviving are his son, Roy (Bonnie) Sowers; a grandson, Robert Sowers; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Sowers and Ray Sowers; two sisters, Edith Rasel and Edna Lightner; and two grandchildren, Sheri Sowers and Teresa Sowers.
Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2022, the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 825 Allison Ave., Washington.
Interment in Lone Pine Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
