Lee E. Wagers, Jr., 89, of Washington, died Sunday, September 18, 2022, in Washington Hospital.

He was born January 29, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late Lee E. Wagers, Sr., and Katherine Dulaney Wagers.

A 1951 graduate of Trinity High School, he was a member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wagers was very proud of the fact that he served in the National Guard when he was only 14.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served until his honorable discharge, with the rank of corporal, March 5, 1955. For his service, he earned the M-1 Rifle Marksmanship Badge, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Wagers owned and operated Apple Crest Orchard with his wife since 1962. He also worked for 20 years as a typesetter for the Observer-Reporter, where he was president of the union.

His greatest joy was his farm, and all things related to farming, and he was known to be able to grow anything. Lee also enjoyed deer hunting, and spending time outdoors.

Lee was a lifetime member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.

On July 8, 1951, he married Audrey E. Guthrie, who survives.

Also surviving are three children, Kevin M. (Monica) Wagers of Virginia, Jill L. (William) Craig of Washington, and Lee E. (Bonnie L.) Wagers III; grandchildren, Randy L. (Elizabeth) Wagers, Steven (Amy) Wagers, West Craig, Chance (Sabrina) Craig, Lee E. (Ronnie) Wagers IV, Michael B. Wagers, and Charles D. (Nicole) Wagers; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle (Kevin) McKinney; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Deceased are a son, Randy L. Wagers; daughter-in-law, Debra Wagers; and two siblings, Charles Wagers and Sarah Wiles.

Friends and family will be received from 1 until 4 p.m., the time of service, Monday, September 26, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Avenue, Suite 400, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
