Mary Jean Povero-Evans, of Oakdale, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by her cousin, Harry, Jr. and her loving caregivers, whom were always at her side.

She was born December 21, 1950, to the late Eugene L. Povero, and Margaret Lucille Griffith Povero, who died when Mary was two years old.

Mary had a deep devotion to God and family, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Gary Evans, who she married on September 29, 1990, and who passed away on October 30, 2022.

Mary was a 1969 graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown, where she developed lifelong friendships. She always cherished her special time with each of her friends and they will miss her smile, friendship, and humor.

Mary went on to obtain her Real Estate Sales license at age 23, and operated a Uni-Mart on Steubenville Pike. She also worked for the Allegheny County Airport Authority and later, ALCOSAN.

Mary Jean would never stop missing her father after his death in 2004. Eugene left Mary Jean to manage the commercial properties he built as a developer, including the former Povero Building in North Fayette Township, and McDonald Plaza in McDonald.

Mary was also preceded in death by her beloved Grandmother, Angelina Povero, who was her world. Mary helped Grandma navigate a long journey with Alzheimer’s.

Mary Jean loved her family dearly and left behind many cousins who will always remember her kind heart and beautiful smile. She was fortunate to grow up with her cousins, Linda Stiffler, and Linda’s children, Harry (“J.R.”) Stiffler, Jr. who was forever ready and there to help Mary, and Ted Stiffler, all of Washington.

Mary adored their children, Emily, Zachary and Bret.

She also left behind her dear cousins, Dr. Lee (Lynda) Martin, of Arlington, Virginia, Mary Margaret Brunner of Pittsburgh, Monica Trevena of Burgettstown and Michael Brunner of Wheeling, and their children, as well as numerous cousins from the Martin and the Griffith families.

Mary Jean also leaves behind a stepson, Steven (Melanie) Evans of Illinois, and his cherished children, Chandler and Seth.

Mary was blessed to have angel caregivers that loved her like their own. Special thanks to Patti Deliman, April Courneya, Sarah-Ann Mitchell, Angela Yoho, Kayla Weaver, Karie Dunn-Golden, and Karen Ruffing who helped Mary through her own journey, like Grandma.

Last, but not least, Mary Jean also leaves behind her smallest angel, her Havanese, Lily.

Family and friends will be received from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023, in the Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., of BURGETTSTOWN, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021, (formerly Lee & Martin Funeral Home.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Burgettstown, with Reverend Harry Bielewicz, Pastor as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, where Mary will rejoin her father, mother, grandmother, aunt, Emma (“Auntie Em”) Bundy and Mary’s husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please send gifts in memory of the Povero Family to Our Lady of Lourdes Church of Saint Isidore the Farmer Parish, 1109 Main Street, Burgettstown PA 15021.
