Helen Alexas
Helen Alexas, 86, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
She was born on January 29, 1937, in Washington, a daughter of the late George and Penelope Karanzalis Alexas.
Ms. Alexas graduated from Washington High School in 1954, and Carnegie Mellon University (formerly Carnegie Tech) in 1958. She worked at Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh; first as a Training Systems Department Supervisor and then as Manager of Standard Procedures until 1986. She became Credit Department Supervisor in 1986 at Kaufmann’s Department Store in Pittsburgh until her retirement in 2000.
Ms. Alexas was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Canonsburg. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlework. She traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Surviving are her sister, Catherine Alexas of McMurray; brother, Ernest (Leona) Alexas of Washington; nephews and nieces, George (Cheri) Kademenos, Dean Kademenos, Nicole Herrnberger, Damon Alexas and Tiffany (Bill) Nelson; great-nephews and nieces, Andreas Kademenos, for whom she retired to help watch and nurture, Dayna Gregg, Robert Kademenos, Alexandra Herrnberger, Nicholas Herrnberger and A.D. Nelson; also survived by many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by nephew, Peter Kademenos; and great-great-nephew, Alex Gregg.
All services will be private.
