Cecelia Evelyn Nakoneczny Senkinc Smiddle

Cecelia Evelyn Nakoneczny Senkinc Smiddle, 97, of Finleyville, passed away, in her home, on the morning of Friday, April 28, 2023, under the care of Vitas Hospice, her loving daughters, and her wonderful caregivers.

She was born May 23, 1925, in Cherry Valley, to the late Jon and Agnes Wietz Nakoneczny.

Cecilia was the last surviving sibling, which included three brothers and five sisters: Walter (Lucille), Alex (Mildred), Joe (Yolanda) Nakoneczny, Nellie (John) Kortyna, Helen (Frank) Malesky, Mary (Jack) Quattro, Agnes (Albert) Albinini, and Victoria Nakoneczny, who died at age 4 in 1918 of the Spanish flu.

Cecelia had five children. Three surviving are Patricia (Andrew) Hullak, Margaret “Peggy” (ex-husband John Quattro), and a son, Joseph Senkinc.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, JoLin (Dan, surviving) who died April 2022, and Eleanor May (stillborn April 1959).

Cecilia had eight grandchildren, James (Pamela) Hullak, Jamie (Charles) Wycoff, Andrea (Kenneth) Clark, Frank (Billie Jo) Hullak, Kenneth Dalton, Lucas (Jessica) Dalton, John (Christy) Quattro, and Matthew Quattro; 12 great-grandchildren, along with 5 great-great- grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by both husbands, Joseph Senkinc and Robert Smiddle.

Cecelia’s hobbies were reading, crocheting and crafting. She enjoyed puzzles and games, specifically Yahtzee. Her true love was her flower garden and being outdoors.

She knew her way around the kitchen and had a knack for always trying new recipes. If she was missing any ingredients, she would improvise, and boy, was it always excellent.

Cecelia retired from the The Washington Company, where she hand-painted glassware on Main Street Extension in Washington.

Cecilia received impeccable care from Vitas Hospice, Dr. Kathleen Reyes, Amanda Dancer, RN; Traci Roscoe, RN; Bruce Stollings, chaplan; Tabitha Gregory, Wendy Harding, social worker extraordinaire; and caregivers, Tammy Clark, Kimberley Himes and Danielle Chase.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home, Robert K. McIlvaine, owner / supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
