Lillian Carpenter

Lillian Carpenter, 79, of Dilliner, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, in her home, following a lengthy illness. Born September 11, 1943, in Grindstone, she was a daughter of the late Mary and Andrew Garnek, Sr.

A faithful member of St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Bobtown (St. Ignatius), Lillian had previously worked in the laundries at the hospitals and several hotels in Morgantown, and was a former Scout Leader in Bobtown.

Surviving are her loving husband, David F. Carpenter; three devoted daughters, Bernadine Judy (Steven) of Morgantown, Lora Treece (Jay) of Carmichaels, and Marilyn Hazlerig of Leavittsburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Joshua Judy (Vivian), Melissa VanHuss, Felicia Lease (Ben) and Hunter Hazlerig; and one great-granddaughter, Penelope VanHuss; two brothers, Andrew Garnek, Jr. and Bernard Garnek; and two sisters, Bernadine Hess and Carmie O’Connor.

Also deceased are three sisters, Terry Garnek, Peggy Stutler and Mary Vincent.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the St. Ignatius Worship Site of the St. Matthias Parish, Bobtown. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
