Nelson E. Downey
Nelson E. Downey, 70, of Claysville, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
He was born on April 23, 1953, in Washington, the son of the late Eugene Nelson Downey and Josephine Perry Downey. Nelson was a 1972 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.
On June 26, 1976, he married the love of his life, Deborah J. Downey. They spent 24 loving years together before her passing on February 9, 2001.
Nelson worked as the Operations Manager of fine wire and shapes at Dynamet Inc., in Washington, for 40 years before retiring.
Nelson was a member of the Claysville American Legion Post #639, the Moose Club in Washington, the Arms Club in Washington, the Houston American Legion Post #902 and the Canonsburg Sportsmans Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, dancing, riding his Harley when he was able, poker, watching the Washington Redskins, softball and wrestling.
Above all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports.
There are many things about Nelson that made him such an amazing individual, he was always so full of life and a friend to everyone he met. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Surviving are two sons, Nelson A. Downey (Angela) and Michael A. Downey (Joyce); grandchildren: Addison, Avery, Paisley, Roman and Harper Downey; sister-in-law, Brenda McAdoo; brother-in-law, David McAdoo; aunt, Diane (Teddy) Eriksen; his little buddy, Fonzy; and he leaves behind “Dumber” and many close friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Caleb Ramey. Internment to follow at Claysville Cemetery.
