John D. McDonald, 71, of Claysville, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Washington Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1951, in Washington, a son of the late George Albert and Mary Pauline Keener McDonald.

John was a graduate of McGuffey High School.

He was retired from Albano’s Produce, where he worked as a truck driver.

Mr. McDonald was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War as a private first class with the First Battalion 32nd Infantry.

A member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, he was also a member of Post 927 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Washington.

He loved his two dogs, Reckus and Junior, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Surviving are two children, Brandon (Rebecca) McDonald of Washington, and Heather M. (Shawn) Simmons of Washington; a stepdaughter, Kelley Jo Brown of Donora; a brother, George “Bob” (Karen) McDonald of New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Devan, Logan, Dalton, Carrington, Tegan, Braxtyn, Temperance and Daphyne; along with eight great-grandchildren, Carsyn, Jace, Nyla, Jake, Milani, Athena, Braylon and Yazmin; his close friend and companion, Linda Coffield; his roommate and close friend, Donnie Gruber; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a sister, Constance Rush; and his twin brother, James McDonald.

At the request of the deceased, all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
