Michael John Veltri Sr.

Michael John Veltri Sr., 75, of Washington, died on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born on May 7, 1947, in Washington, a son of the late Salvatore and Saveria Matergan Veltri.

A 1966 graduate of Trinity High School, he was a member of Saint Hilary Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Veltri worked for the United States Postal Service, as a mail carrier, from 1969 until 2002, before driving trucks for Veltri Trucking, from 2002 until 2009.

Michael was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and the Keystone Club.

He enjoyed dancing, boating and camping, and spending time at Tygart Lake. Mr. Veltri was very proud of the work he and his son, Michael, did restoring his 1957 Chevrolet. Above all, he loved spending time with family and friends, and because he was a kind compassionate person, he was always helping others.

On March 15, 1968, in Reno, Nev., he married the love of his life, Debra Ann Townsend, who died on March 16, 2013.

Surviving are three children, Michael J. (Lori Sue) Veltri, Jr., of Washington, Michele (Gene) Mercer, of Washington, and Matthew (Bowwy) Veltri, of San Fransisco, Calif.; a brother, Victor (Ellie) Veltri, of Hermitage; three sisters, Angeline Veltri, of Washington, Dolores (the late Henry) Wilson, of Wellsburg, W.Va., and Virginia (Allen) Adamsky, of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Andrew Mercer, Joey Mercer, Destinee (Dan) Notaro, Michael Veltri III., and Marco Veltri; one great-granddaughter, Lennon Notaro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are five brothers, Fredrick, Salvatore, Pietro, Paul and Eugenio Veltri.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, with Father Tom Lewandowski as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
