William Clayburn Griffey Harvey entered the joy of heaven Thursday, February 2, 2023, having completed his earthly assignment as a good and faithful Christian, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor.

Affectionately known as “Clay,” he was born August 11, 1933, in McDonald, to the late Ernest Clayburn Harvey and Adele Redd Harvey.

Clay attended and graduated from McDonald High School, where he developed a passion for baseball, basketball and football. From 1953 to 1955 he ably served his country as a Quartermaster in the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Clay began what would be a 40-year career at Shenango Inc. – a tough and physically demanding job of which he carried fond memories. One of his favorite sayings was: “I took care of my job; my job took care of me.”

For his entire life he was a faithful member and eventual trustee emeritus of First Baptist Church of McDonald. This is where his spiritual foundation was obtained and nurtured throughout his life.

He was a lifelong Steelers fan and season ticket holder. Other than family, the Steelers and potato salad were two things to which he devoted a good deal of energy – he loved all three.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Allen Anderson (formerly of Detroit, Mich.); and a granddaughter, Hilary Dunbar.

Clay was the ultimate “Girl Dad”. Surviving are three daughters, Victoria Dunbar (Kenneth) of McDonald, Monica Harvey of Pittsburgh, Lisa Jo Harvey of Pittsburgh; a granddaughter, Kendall Dunbar of Pittsburgh; and sister, Patricia Blakely (the late Adolphus). Also surviving as family and friend is ex-wife, Betty Harvey, with whom he enjoyed 23 years of marriage before divorcing.

The family extends special thanks to ProMedica Hospice (Amelia Spencer, Carol Peterson, Jennifer Knezevich) and Chartiers Bend Resort Retirement Community for their love and support during this difficult passing.

Graveside burial and committal ceremony was held in private. A memorial service is being planned for the near future. Details will be reposted and published with a follow up printing of this obituary.
