Shirley M. Howe

Shirley M. Howe, 91, of Washington, died Thursday, February 9, 2023, in Strabane Woods of Washington.

She was born March 3, 1931, in Washington, the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Tatko Walker.

Shirley was a longtime member of The Church of the Covenant, where she served as a deacon as well as performing in the choir and bell choir.

She was a 1949 graduate of California High School.

Shirley retired from Washington Steel after many years in their accounting department.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Washington.

On February 3, 1950, in Maryland, she married the love of her life, Dewaine J. Howe, who died February 26, 2003.

Surviving are: a son, Thomas D. (Elaine) Howe of Washington; a granddaughter, Heather (Tony) Rosati; two great-grandsons, Anthony Rosati, Jr, and Max Rosati; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a brother, Raymond Walker.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Doreen and the entire staff at Strabane Woods for their exceptional care of Shirley during her time there.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2023, with Reverend Billy Younger officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to The Church of the Covenant, 267 E. Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301.
