Katherine Brehl Yancosek
Katherine “Kitty” Brehl Yancosek, 85, of McCandless Township passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
Born in Washington, on March 18, 1937. Beloved wife for 64 years of Richard A. Yancosek; mother of, Susan (Manny) Vallejo, Karen (Jim) Dionise, Lisa (Thomas) Pyo and Jill (Sean) Mason; sister of the late Frank (Ellen) Brehl, Betty Ann Brehl, Jack (Rita) Brehl, Robert Brehl, Mary Louise (Ray) Finley, Dick (surviving Sandy) Brehl, Larry (Dorothy) Brehl, Bill (Dawn) Brehl, and Marge Brehl; sister-in-law, of the late Clem (surviving Virginia) Yancosek, and Pete (Rita) Yancosek; grandmother of Alex (Catherine) Vallejo, Anna Vallejo, Zach (Emma) Dionise, Abby Dionise, Hilary (Ryan) Mulligan, Nicholas Pyo, Demetrius Pyo, Rebeccah Pyo, Connor Mason and Aidan Mason; great- grandmother, of Joseph Vallejo.
Kitty is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her love for her family and her faith were the center of her life.
Lifelong resident of Washington, until a 2006 move to be close to family. Member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and later Saint Luke the Evangelist (Saints John and Paul), where she founded the Prayer Shawl Ministry and sang in the funeral choir.
A 1953 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. Graduate of Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) and Duquesne University, Masters Degree.
Kitty held various jobs throughout her career. Her favorite was teaching English at Fontbonne Academy in the 1970’s. She was a pioneer in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome education during her years at Washington-Greene Prevention Corporation.
Kitty exemplified dedication to God and family, education and service. Her influence will impact her family and others for generations to come.
Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday February 13 at Schellhaas & Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143 (Franklin Park/Wexford) Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 14 at 10 a.m. in Saints John & Paul Catholic Church, 2586 Wexford Bayne Rd., Sewickley, PA 15143. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington.
