Ruth H. “Beckie” Briggs

Ruth H. “Beckie” Briggs 85, of Amity died Friday February 17, 2023 in Washington Healthsystem, Washington.

She was born in Pittsburgh on January 31, 1938, daughter of the late Samuel and Lydia Verne Mowry Hampton.

She was a 1957 graduate of Waynesburg High School. Beckie was a homemaker most of her life. She also worked for Nichol’s Ambulance Service and as secretary at Faith Christian School. She was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served as Sunday School Secretary for over 30 years and also as secretary of the North Ten Mile Church Cemetery Association and sang in the choir. Beckie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and puzzles.

On September 5, 1959 she married Lawrence F. Briggs Sr. with whom she shared over 61 years of marriage before his passing on February 1, 2021. She is survived by three children Rhonda (Ralph) Gatten of Scenery Hill, Lawrence Briggs Jr. of Amity, Danett (Brad Arbes) Briggs of Newport Ritchey, Fla.; five grandchildren, Chad (Joanna) Fowler, Adam McNary, Lukas (Elizabeth) Gatten, Dallas McNary, Noah (Amber) Gatten; a great-granddaughter Aubrey McNary; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are a granddaughter, Cory Ann Gatten; sister, Lillian Barnett; and brother, Samuel B. Hampton.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in North Ten Mile Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in North Ten Mile Church Cemetery. An online guestbook may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
