Richard A. McConnell, 85, of Houston, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, in his home.

He was born on July 24, 1937, in Chartiers Township, the son of the late George McConnell and Katherine King McConnell.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church.

Prior to his retirement, he worked in shipping for McGraw Edison in Canonsburg, and Washington Steel Corporation.

Married on October 8, 1960, Richard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rebecca Skowvron McConnell. Becky, his favorite golf partner, and partner-in-crime was known to pad her golf score a bit (but he never called her on it).

Also left behind to cherish the memories are: his son, Richard M. (Heather) McConnell, of South Fayette Township; daughter, Robin (Ken) Hershberger, of Upstate New York; six grandchildren, Bill, Michelle, Taylor, Luke, Logan and Raelyn.

He was an avid bowler and bowled many three game series over 600. He loved to hunt anything that flew in the air and often traveled to Iowa to hunt pheasants, or to the Chesapeake Bay to hunt ducks.

When not chasing birds, he could be found hunting deer.

His favorite recreational passion was golfing. Once, he shot the course record at Washington Country Club, July 15, 1992, a five under par score of 66. Not to be outdone, at the age of 84, he shot his first hole-in-one, at the Andover Golf Course in Ohio, – a par three, 175 yard hole.

Frequently volunteering for the parish, whether it be making perogies, renovating bathrooms, or cutting the cemetery grass, he gave of himself freely. He would give you the shirt off his back and had a special passion for children, often stopping and taking the time to talk with them.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 24th, at the Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg PA 15317.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023, in Sacred Heart Polish National Catholic Church, in Canonsburg, with Father Mark Swoger as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Canonsburg.
