Edward M. “Hobo” King, 58, of Avella, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Hobo was born on March 21, 1964, in Washington, son of the late Robert Jackson and Yolanda Ruth McGlothlin King.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Poggi, whom he married on September 21, 2001. Also surviving are his three step-children, Holly Beaver, Heather (Tim) Crawford and Heath (Jessica) Wilson; and his grandson, Lane Beaver, whom he loved very much.

Hobo was a gentle giant; a man who loved life, was a hard worker and always had a smile on his face, while he was joking around with everyone.

He was a 1982 graduate of Avella High School and was currently working for Alex E. Paris Contracting Co. Inc., of Atlasburg.

From a very young age he loved to hunt and fish, and his passion for the outdoors only grew as he got older. He loved to take his grandson, Lane, hunting and fishing, teaching him everything he knew. They also went on many hunting and fishing trips.

He was an outdoorsman, in every way. A lot of people called him “Mountain Man” because of his grizzly beard.

Hobo was a lot of fun to be around, and was loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed socializing with friends and was a member of Raccoon Valley Sportsman Association and Polar Star Mutual Benefit Society, both of Avella; the Moose Lodge 22 and the Slovak Club, both in Washington.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Avella.
