Robert H. Johnston, 105, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side Friday, January 13, 2023.

He was born January 2, 1918, in Canonsburg, a son of the late James Harvey and Frances Weaver Johnston. After graduating from Cecil High School, he began his career at Continental Can Company in Canonsburg, retiring 45 years later as Shipping Supervisor.

Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home, making many friends along the way.

He was a lifetime member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, serving in many ministries over the years, and truly loved his church family.

He was a member of Chartiers Lodge #297, member of former Millers Run Grange, former Buffalo Grange, John McMillan Reunion Commitee, Midway Senior Citizens and volunteer for S.C.O.R.E. (Service Core Of Retired Executives).

He was a car enthusiast, an avid gardener, who participated in the Washington County Fair, and found great satisfaction in the ribbons he received. He liked keeping busy; helping family and friends and looked forward to finding and fixing bicycles for the Toy Chest at church.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew him. A true gentleman with a kind personality, a caring spirit and a warm smile.

On May 20, 1950; he married Dorothy Ott Johnston, deceased 2007.

Also deceased are both of his sons; Robert W. Johnston, deceased August 2009, and Roger W. Johnston, deceased April 2021.

Surviving, are his daughter, Linda Kay Hilderbrand; daughter-in-law, Chris Johnston; grandchildren, Chelsea Johnston, Hali Kay and David Hilderbrand; great-grandchildren; Cameron and Chloe Kingsley; younger brother, William (Hazel) Johnston; many nieces, nephews, friends and his little body guard, Nellie Grace, his miniature dachshund, who will be lost without him.

Friends and Family are welcome at 164 W. Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-5810, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 W. Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will be private.
