Deeathra Gale Fuqua
Deeathra “Dee” Gale Fuqua, 78, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in Transitions Healthcare, Washington.
She was born December 13, 1944, in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Claudine Whitlow Hodnett Manns.
Dee was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where she was also the secretary.
She had a lengthy career as a nurse, working at the Washington Hospital and Evergreen Assisted Living. She had also worked at the Avis Arbor Women’s Shelter and RCA.
She enjoyed crocheting, watching western movies, and loved to watch her “stories”.
Dee is survived by her loving husband, William A. “Bill” Fuqua of Washington; three sons, Rodney Fuqua of Dayton, Ohio, Curtis S. Fuqua of Washington, and Michael L. Fuqua (fiance Angelique Flores) of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Mischele L. Fuqua of Washington; grandchildren, Christina, Chandell, Trois, Jasmine, Alexis, Keira, Syann, Tiana, Jailynn, Veronica, John, Chuckie, and Greg; a sister, Sonya Hodnett Colson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, William A. “Red”Fuqua, Jr.; a brother, David Hodnett; and her grandparents, Goldie Brown Whitlow Thompson, Samuel Whitlow, and Lewis Thompson.
Family and friends are welcome from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
