Vertresse C. Davis
Vertresse C. “Vernie” Davis, 70, of Houston, died Monday, July 17, 2023, in Canonsburg Hospital, with family at his side.
He was born September 11, 1952, in Washington, a son of Chummy Chandler Davis of Canonsburg and the late James L. Davis.
Vernie attended Chartiers-Houston High School and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Canonsburg.
He served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1972 until June of 1975.
Vernie had worked for PennDot for 30 years, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of the Peacemakers Motorcycle Club, and a former member of the IBPOE of W in Canonsburg. Vernie enjoyed riding and working on his motorcycle, and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Angela Lou Taylor Davis; five children, Alicia Michelle McClain (Bob) of Houston, Jennifer Davis of Winter Park, Fla., Aaron Vertresse Davis (Monica) of Ocoee, Fla., Beverly Perkins of Canonsburg and Lynzie Davis (Malik Singletary) of Hinesville, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren; three brothers, James L. Davis Jr. (Terri) of Cambridge, Ohio, and Arthur Davis and Jerome Davis (Iris), both of Houston; a sister, Linda Thomas (Charles) of Houston; two stepsons, Nicholas Taylor (Janae) of Houston, and Eli Taylor (Jennifer) of Finleyville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased, in addition to his father, are a sister, Toni Ann Towns; and his former wife, Kathie Strnisa Davis.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
