Kathrine Wyrwas
Kathrine “Kay” Wyrwas, 92, of Canonsburg, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully, in her home, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Kay was born June 15, 1931, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Fritz and Hilda Brenk Meier.
She lived most of her life in Houston and Canonsburg. She was a graduate of Chartiers High School Class of 1949 and a faithful member of Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park.
Kay had been employed with Mellon Bank in her early career and prior to her retirement worked for many years at the Lil Professor Book Store in the former Washington Mall.
She loved to puzzle and enjoyed walking and Christian Psalm music. Kay loved gardening, knowing most every type of flower in her garden; cooking, baking, and she especially enjoyed lunching with groups of her dear friends.
Most of her life Kay raised dogs, but leaves behind her cat, Selina.
On February 14, 1953, she married Edward S. Wyrwas, who passed away May 5, 1990, after 37 years of marriage.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Kathy Ann (Michael) Flaherty of Hull, Mass.; her son, Edward Randell Wyrwas of Canonsburg; her cherished grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Sean (Megan) Flaherty, Lindsey Flaherty, Christy (Patrick) Lenehan; and her great-grandson, Caden Flaherty; and several nieces and nephews.
Kay was the last of her immediate family. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, is her brother, Donald Meier.
Friends and family are welcome from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, July 21, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, (724-745-8120) where departing time will be at 10:45 a.m. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Ruthfred Lutheran Church, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
